Visions are proud to announce the acquisition of the Eye Guys Mudgeeraba to take the number of practices in the group to 10.  This location services the eye care needs of the many Visions patients in the Mudgeeraba/Tallai/Bonogin area.  We are very pleased that one of the original owners of the practice Courtney Bowen has agreed to stay with the practice as its optical dispenser.  Patients will love Courtney's infectious laugh and expert advice when choosing their eyewear.  Leena Pathaja also joins our optometry team, and is available to provide her expert advice to patients Tuesdays and Thursdays.

VISIONS OFFERS GOLD COASTERS THE LATEST DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IN EYE CARE

In the second half of 2007, we invested in the latest technology in diagnostic equipment.  The practice purchased the amazing OCT scanner which is able to detect microscopic changes in the retina and optic nerve, ensuring sight threatening conditions such as Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration are detected and monitored at the earliest stage to ensure prevention of vision loss.  This ground breaking technology was previously only available in specialist clinics at very high cost, but Visions is proud to be able to add the technology to its previously available GDX Optic Nerve Scanner.  Even better the group decided this should be available to patients at about 1/5 the cost you would pay at a clinic.

NINE Digital Retinal Cameras were also purchased so that EVERY Visions location is able to photograph and monitor the long term health of your eyes.  This means that every Gold Coaster from Runaway Bay to Tweed Heads has access to this technology.  Our latest branch at Mudgeeraba will have its camera installed soon.  Who will benefit?  Everyone! But especially those patients with Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Diabetes, vascular disorders including blood pressure, retinal disorders, outdoor workers at risk of sun damage, and anyone with a family history of any of these conditions.  Make an appointment at one of branches today and ask your optometrist to give you the ultimate eye health check-up.

WHAT HAVE OUR OPTOMETRISTS BEEN UP TO?

Michael Hare recently visited Sydney as the Gold Coast representative for the launch of a national education campaign to highlight the risks of Glaucoma to patients.  Keep your ears open for our new "media star" early in March 08 as Mike educates Gold Coasters on the importance of thorough eye exams to prevent vision loss due to this terrible disease.

Celia Bloxsam was extremely busy in late 2007 as she studied for her Graduate Diploma in Ocular Therapeutics.  She achieved outstanding results in her theory exams, and will spend time early in 2008 performing practical clinical training with local ophthalmologists, before sitting her final exams.  This will bring our number of optometry staff able to write prescriptions for eye medications to three.

All our optometrists regularly attend continuing education seminars to ensure we know about the latest advancements in eye care.  In 2007, our optometrists attended the Qld Vision conference in Brisbane, SRC Eye conference in Melbourne, The International Contact Lens Society conference, and the Eye Centre Conference along with countless other short seminars, and of course our own regular in-house meetings and training sessions.  Want to know the latest in eye care? Ask one of our optometrists!
